Drive-in movies are all but extinct these days, which is maybe why we’re finding alternatives popping up left and right. In fact, this week you have your choice of 4 (count ‘em … four) separate outdoor film events, most of them free. Pass the Jujubes, please.

It’s Film and Music, together at Red Rocks, the outdoor amphitheater. This week features the ‘80s blockbuster, Top Gun, accompanied by Candy Claws and the Peder Noir Quartet.

Flicks on the ‘FAX: Short Circuit
Bring a blanket and find a spot on the lawn for a free showing of this ‘80s classic starring Ally Sheedy, Steve Guttenberg and Fisher Stevens. Movie begins at dusk.

Mile High Movies: Hairspray
Coordinated by Downtown Denver Partnership, Mile High Movies is a free summer movie series happening at Skyline Park. This week features the John Water’s classic, “Hairspray.”

Bike-In Movie: E.T the Extra-Terrestrial
Join the Civic Center Conservancy, the Denver Cruiser Ride, Denver Parks and Recreation, and the Outdoor Cinema Network for a screening of the biking classic, E.T.: the Extra-Terrestrial, at Civic Center Park. Attendees can bring picnics or purchase from on-site gourmet food trucks, with the show beginning at dusk.
