Neighborhood Focus: Capitol Hill
You know you’re in the Capitol Hill neighborhood when you see the newly gilded dome of Denver’s State Capitol peeking through the treetops. We love this area for its historic mansions, unique local shops, and its proximity to downtown Denver and the museum district.
Unique Features
The stately Capitol building is home to Colorado’s lawmakers and offers free tours daily. For a dose of history, visit the Molly Brown House or the History Colorado Center. Nearby Civic Center Park hosts annual festivals including the People’s Fair and the Taste of Colorado.
Local Businesses
The Capitol Hill neighborhood contains an impressive array of coffee shops, restaurants, concert venues, and shopping opportunities. Some of our favorites include: Jelly Cafe, Wax Trax Records, Pablo’s Coffee, Capitol Hill Books, City O City, Trader Joe’s, Ogden Theatre, The 9th Door, Potager, and Thump.
Getting Around
It’s fairly easy to get around Capitol Hill without a car. Most venues are within walking or biking distance, and bike-sharing stations abound. Street parking is available, but be sure to check the signs, as rules vary from block to block. And it’s just a short walk to Denver’s new public transportation hub, with access to downtown.
