Giving Thanks This Season

Giving Thanks This Season

Thanksgiving is upon us, and in addition to enjoying time with family and friends, it is a time to reflect on what we are all thankful for. We at Boutique Apartments are thankful for our wonderful residents, and for the chance to provide them with a quality living experience in Denver.

We’re also thankful for all the wonderful opportunities that living in the mile-high city provides. Here are just a few ideas for spending your time during Thanksgiving in Denver.

Help Others in Need
Both the Denver Rescue Mission and the Epworth Foundation have their annual events to help bring Thanksgiving into the home of people in need. You can help by donating food, money, or your time.

 Get Physical
Don your goofiest turkey costume and join over 20,000 others in Washington Park this year for the Annual 4-Mile Turkey Trot. Or grab your skates and show off your ice-skating moves on the rink at Skyline Park.

Try Out a New Restaurant
If cooking isn’t your thing, try out a new restaurant … many Denver establishments have special Thanksgiving menus.

Increase Your Cultural IQ
See a movie, read a book, or check out a new art exhibit. Denver’s cultural opportunities abound!

Shop Local
If you must shop this weekend, why not buy local? It’s said that local businesses generate 70% more local economic activity than big-box stores.

Neighborhood Focus: City Park

neighborhood_citypark1_400x260

The City Park neighborhood is situated in northeast Denver and surrounds Denver’s largest and most celebrated park.

What do we love about the neighborhood? For starters, there’s the park itself … comprising 330 acres and created in 1880, City Park boasts miles of running paths, tennis courts, playgrounds, several lakes, lots of trees, a fabulous boathouse, plus it’s home to the Denver Zoo and the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.

Unique Features

Every summer, City Park hosts the music concert series “Jazz in the Park”, on Sunday evenings. Locals are encouraged to bring their picnic setups and join the hundreds of others for this free event.

Summer Sundays also feature the City Park Farmer’s Market, located on the Esplanade near East High School. The market offers a mix of locally grown Colorado produce, plus gourmet food vendors.

In 2017 we’ll see the completion of the Carla Madison Recreation Center, located at the corner of Josephine and Colfax. This center will feature cardio and weights areas, lap and leisure pools, and a dog park. You can follow the City of Denver website for updates.

Local Businesses

Surrounding City Park you’ll find stately turn-of-the-century victorian houses, tree-lined streets, and a variety of local businesses. Some of our favorite restaurants and drinking establishments are just around the corner: Tommy’s Thai, Mezcal, Pete’s Kitchen, Syrup, PS Lounge, Bastien’s, Goosetown Tavern, Caffe Sanora and SAME Cafe.

Our other favorite City Park hangouts include: Tattered Cover Bookstore, Twist & Shout Records, Sie Film Center, The Bluebird Theatre, Sprouts Market, and Marczyk Fine Foods.

Getting Around

The City Park neighborhood is bike- and pedestrian-friendly. Parking opportunities vary, and street parking is fairly easy, depending on the block. It’s only a few miles to downtown Denver, and easy access to highways I-70 and I-25.
